  1. Scope
    1. This Policy applies to any individual’s personal data which is in FIL’s possession or under FIL control and all Staff are required to comply with this Policy when they carry out their daily activities.
    2. This Policy is designed to help policyholders better understand how we may collect, use, disclose, store, and transfer your personal data.
  2. What does Privacy mean?
    1. In terms of information, privacy is the right of an individual to have some control over how his or her personal information (including personal health information) is collected, used, and/or disclosed.
    2. Simply, this means collecting, using, disclosing, and safeguarding, personal information gathered from policyholders.
  3. What information does FIL collect?
    1. FIL collects non-public personal information about policyholders from a variety of sources. The information FIL collect allows us to properly underwrite and rate insurance policy and to complete the other transactions incidental to policyholders insurance policy. Sources of information include, but are not limited to:
      1. Information we receive from policyholders on applications or other forms.
      2. Information about policyholders transactions with us, our affiliates, or others.
      3. Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency.
      4. Driver information from the motor vehicle departments.
      5. Medical or financial information.
  4. When will FIL not disclose personal information?
    1. FIL does not:
      1. Trade, rent or sell personal information; or
      2. Provide personal information to anyone without consent unless in the following circumstances:
        1. other than physicians and hospitals (local or overseas), pharmacies, brokers, agents, re-insurers, actuaries, auditors, and their appointed representatives and those we appoint to investigate and manage claims on our behalf; or
        2. the collection is required by law; or
        3. it is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defense of a claim. [In most cases, FIL obtains consent in the usual course of dealings, e.g., a consent is incorporated into our Proposal Forms and Claims Forms.]
    2. FIL does not disclose any non-public personal information about our policyholders or claimants to any third parties except as is permitted by law. Any such disclosures are made for the purpose of transacting the business of the insurance coverage or the claim. In some cases, this information can be disclosed to third parties without policyholders authorization. These disclosures may include those made to their insurance agency, appraisers, independent adjusters, insurance regulators, beneficiaries, and/or mortgage lender or lienholder.
    3. The Company does not sell or market non-public personal information.
  5. How does FIL keep information safe?
    1. FIL restricts access to policyholder personal information to those employees who need it to provide the insurance products and services the policyholder has requested. FIL maintains physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect personal information.
    2. Personal information is only retained as long as necessary for the fulfilment of the purposes it is collected for.
